Food Giveaway
It was a sunny Saturday morning and there was an excitement in the
air. The opportunity to give took center stage as the Gileadnites
gathered on Thursday evening and again on Saturday morning simply
to be a blessing. The boxes were filled with enough food to feed
a family of four for several days. Not only did the families receive
ministry for their physical needs, prayer counselors were available
to minister to their spiritual needs as well. We thank God for the
ministry of giving that allowed us to feed 150 families which equates
to 600 individuals who have been blessed as result of this special
outreach ministry. Praise God Gileadnites for a job well done!
Mt. Gilead paid tribute to those serving in the armed forces on Sunday, July 6th in honor of the Independence Day holiday. While most were looking forward to backyard BBQ’s, the Gileadnites were busy preparing to honor those who sacrifice for our liberty. Over 100 of Mt. Gilead’s active and retired military were recognized at the 9:00 a.m. service while over 120 members of the 23rd Quartermaster Brigade from Ft. Lee under the leadership of Sergeant Denson, were honored at the 11:30 worship service. Using a theme, “Freedom Isn’t Free,” Bishop Robertson, Senior Pastor of Mt. Gilead along with its members, paid tribute to the troops for their sacrifice and dedication to serve in the armed forces. The tribute included a medley of patriotic songs followed by a powerful message by Bishop Robertson entitled, “Walking in Authority.” Immediately following the worship service, the troops were served a delicious gourmet meal prepared by Mt. Gilead’s own Executive Chef. The fellowship was rich and the food was wonderful, but what we will all remember most is the image of the altar filled with troops who responded to the invitation for prayer and to receive Christ as their Lord and Savoir. To God be the glory for the great things He has done! From Grading Paper to a Bahamas Getaway
On Sunday, June 8, 2008 during the 9:00 am service, Mt. Gilead Full Gospel International Ministries, headed by Bishop Daniel Robertson, Jr. and Co-Pastor Elena Robertson, presented awards to an exceptional George Wythe teacher and five administrators. The presentation marked the end of a year in which Mt. Gilead entered into an agreement to adopt George Wythe High School; its students and teachers by providing various human, financial and other resources to the school for the purpose of positively impacting the lives of the students and teachers. Each month a teacher was selected as the Teacher of the Month and Mt. Gilead honored that teacher with a $100 gift certificate and one of Mt. Gilead’s World Famous Sweet Potato Pies. While each of the monthly winners were eligible for the Teacher of the Year honor, this time the reward was much more than pastry - but an all expense paid trip for two to paradise in the Bahamas. Elder Calvin Jones, who headed the George Wythe partnership for Mt. Gilead, named Ms. Vanesta Gaines as the 2008 Teacher of the Year. Gaines, a 30-year veteran teacher, received the distinction for her exceptional leadership and a “whatever it takes” attitude toward getting the job done. “We are glad to be able to recognize those who have worked so hard to help our students in such an unselfish manner. We are proud and they should be proud too,” says Elder Calvin Jones. “It’s easy to complain about our schools, but not many people are willing to get involved and make a difference. Our goal for this partnership was to encourage the students as well as the teachers. We hosted a cookout for over 600 students to congratulate the students for a job well done on their SOLs. This is our way of demonstrating that we care,” said Bishop Robertson, Senior Pastor of Mt. Gilead. In addition to the Teacher of the Year award, five George Wythe administrators including Principal Melvin Rose and four assistant principals were recognized for their dedication. Throughout the year, Mt. Gilead also provided 30 mentors for the students and urgently needed school supplies for the teachers for their classrooms. The awards ceremony was a perfect ending to school year that started with several well publicized events that served as an indication of their need for community involvement and hope. Now nine months later, George Wythe has a few accomplishments to be proud of including receiving its accreditation and demonstrating that community partnerships can make a difference. As another school year draws to a close, the George Wythe family has set their sites on making 2009 even better. Mt. Gilead’s Free Fuel Give-away RICHMOND, VA, May 08, 2008 - - On Saturday May 10, 2008 at 10:00 am, Mt. Gilead Full Gospel International Ministries, a 5,000-member congregation, headed by Bishop Daniel Robertson, Jr. and Co-Pastor Elena Robertson gave away close to $10,000 in gas at the Kroger gas station located at 2801 Hicks Road in Richmond, VA. The gas give-away was not announced to the public to circumvent an overwhelming response, but anyone who came to the pump on Saturday at 10:00 am was able to fill up their tanks for free. The event lasted a little over an hour which was how long it took to deplete the nearly $5,000 in gas allotted for this event. This outreach event was a result of Bishop Robertson’s vision to be a blessing to those who need it the most. In addition to the free gas at the pumps, Mt. Gilead Full Gospel International Ministries also presented gas cards valued at $40 each to representatives of Virginia Department for the Aging, Henrico Department of Social Services (Foster Care parents), The Children’s Hospital, and George Wythe High School totaling nearly $5,000. “We recognize the challenge of high gas prices for seniors on a fixed income, families with hospitalized children traveling back and forth to visit their child, and teachers who invest so much in our students,” said Bishop Robertson, “We just want to show them that we are concerned about what affects our community and right now that happens to be high gas prices.” When contacted about the give-away, a representative at the Virginia Department of Aging stated, “No one has ever done this for us before. This is great because we have so many low-income seniors who really need this.” Click below for local news coverage.
