How can I be born again?

Step 1: Know that Jesus Loves You.
Romans 3:23 "For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God."
Romans 5:12 "Wherefore as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned."
Romans 5:8 "But God commandeth (demonstrated) His love for us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us."
Romans 6:23 "For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord."
Romans 10:9 "That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shall believe in thine heart that God raised Him from the dead, thou shalt be saved."
Romans 10:10 "For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation."
Romans 10:13 "For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved."

Step 2: You must repent
Admit that you are a sinner: (Repeat these words) “Father God, I am a sinner, but I believe that your Son died for my sins.”
Confess your sins: (Repeat these words): “I'm sorry for all the things that I have done wrong: For I have sinned against you, Oh God. Father God, please forgive me.”

Step 3: Invite Him into your life
Ask Jesus to come into your heart: (Repeat these words): “Lord Jesus, I ask you to come into my heart and wash all my sins away. I believe in my heart that right now I'm born again. I am a new creature in Christ.”
Jesus loves you and the Mt. Gilead Church family loves you, too. That's why we have taken this time to share Christ with you. He wants you to know that He died for you. If you were the only person on the earth, He still would have gone to the cross for you.
God has some special plans for you, but in order for Him to operate in your life, you have to give Him permission. He won't override your will. He wants you to come willingly. His Word says that He came to give us life -- a new and abundant life. Don't turn away the One who will love you unconditionally. Make this day the beginning of a victorious life.

Step 4: Share with us your decision to give Jesus your life
If you have decided to live for Jesus, please contact us and let us know so that we may rejoice with you and continue to pray for you. You can contact us at: info@thebalmingilead.org

When did Mt. Gilead begin?

Mt. Gilead is a historic church over 100 years old, which makes it one of the oldest churches in Chesterfield County. The name of the church was changed in 2000 from Mt. Gilead Full Gospel Baptist Church to Mt. Gilead Full Gospel International Ministries to reflect our calling to take the gospel outside the walls of the church and into the world.

How long has Bishop Robertson been the Senior Pastor at Mt. Gilead?

In May of 1996, Bishop Robertson left the African Methodist Episcopal (AME) denomination and accepted the call to become the senior pastor of Mt. Gilead Baptist Church after the death of the previous pastor, Rev. Peyton. The church remained without a pastor for over a year and the membership dwindled to 25 members before Bishop Robertson took over as the senior pastor.

How do I become a member of Mt. Gilead?

Becoming a member of Mt. Gilead is a simple process. We do not believe in voting members in or out of the fellowship. Typically, individuals join in response to an invitation extended after the Sunday morning or Wednesday evening message. Because we believe that membership is a covenant connection to the man and woman of God and the ministry, a counselor prays with you about your decision to become a member of Mt. Gilead. A representative of our Member Services Ministry will share with you more details about membership while you complete a basic information form.

After you become a member, you will be contacted by our Member Services Ministry and invited to attend a one-night New Members Orientation and Fellowship. During the Orientation, you will have an opportunity to meet Bishop and Co-Pastor Robertson and learn about the history, doctrine, and vision of Mt. Gilead. This orientation is strongly encouraged for all members and a prerequisite to become a part of Helps Ministry. Those who complete the New Members Orientation and Fellowship are acknowledged during a Sunday morning service. It is during that worship service that Bishop Robertson explains the power and privileges of covenant connection and formally initiates that covenant through prayer.

What is Helps Ministry?

The purpose of Helps Ministry is to carry out the God-given vision of the ministry. The Apostle Paul addresses the role of Helps Ministry in I Corinthians 12:28 when he describes the various offices in the church:

“You're familiar with some of the parts that God has formed in his church, which is his "body": apostles, prophets, teachers, miracle workers, healers, helpers organizers those who pray in tongues”. - The Message Bible

In this passage of scripture, the Apostle Paul uses the body as the physical image of how God has structured the church. Just as the physical body has many members working together toward a common goal, God has made the church with the same connectivity. As the Apostle Paul lists the different offices or roles within the church body, he describes Helps Ministry as those who are organizers. In other words, this passage is identifying those who represent the infrastructure or framework of the church. Another translation describes Helps Ministry as individuals who have compassion for the sick and with the help of the Holy Spirit, they are equipped to minister to those who are hurting.

How do I become a member of Helps Ministry at Mt. Gilead?

Bishop Robertson believes that each member needs a minimum of 90 days to become acclimated to Mt. Gilead and to obtain the spirit of this ministry. During this period, new members are encouraged to complete the New Members Orientation and Fellowship. During this three-month period, members are encouraged to begin praying about what area of Helps Ministry is best suited for them.

At the end of the 90-days, you are eligible to submit a Helps Ministry application which can be found in the Helps Ministry room. Once the application is completed and submitted to the Administrative Assistant, it is reviewed based upon the requirements for participation in Helps Ministry. In order to be a member of Helps Ministry you must:

· Accept Jesus as your Lord and Savior
· Be filled with the Holy Spirit with the initial evidence of speaking in tongues
· Be a consistent tither
· Live holy in accordance with the principles outlined in the Word of God

You will be contacted by a member of the Administrative staff indicating the outcome or status of your application.
